Chinoiserie Shelfie

I found this little shelf at GW about 2 months ago. 

I wasn't sure where it was going in my home ...

but I knew it was going home with me!

Some haters gonna hate but I painted this little shelf.

It had some damage to the finish 
and I thought it would work better for me if it was painted. 

I've been waiting to decide the "where" so I could decide what color!

Progress shot. It's painted and I'm deciding how high to hang it. 

Also, how to hang it because it was a bit heavy 
and I knew some large shells were going on it as well.

Cooper is very enthusiastic about interior design :)

The previous display shelf in this area actually sat on the table top 

so I'm excited that this one will hang. 

It means I can put a lamp on this table and we need a lamp at this end of the couch.

(It means more display space too!)

The shells and coral are from our travels. 

The blue and white lamps and planter are thrifted. The bamboo chair was thrifted as well.

The table was my grandmother's from Charleston. I love that table. It's still "brown" :)

The seascapes were inherited from my great-uncle and I love them.

The plant is a white bird of paradise I bought on a trip to Florida a few weeks ago.

 I hope my thumb is green enough that it blooms someday.

I've moved it outside to a sunnier spot to help it bloom 

and replaced it with a pretty little fern leaf begonia.

It was a great color - Smokey Beige. 

The coverage was great too - I was covering black!

Bamboo Friday.

I'm so, so excited for warm weather and porch time.

I've posted a couple of shots of this mantle set up on my screened in porch 

on Intstagram recently and had a lot of interest about this bamboo mirror.

Y'all - it is plastic!!

And therefore perfect for outside use!!

Do not count plastic bamboo out!!

It's vintage - you can really tell it's age from the back

but it looks great , and surprisingly "real", not plastic, from the front.

I have found several plastic "bamboo" mirrors in the last couple of years. They can be spray painted if the color is a bit off. The one over the porch fireplace just needed dusting!  All of mine have been less than $10.00 at GW and thrift stores. I did a little research and there are several on Etsy and ebay right now. 

They were used in bathrooms in the 60's and 70's 

and there are a lot of different shapes and sizes out there. 

Bamboo Friday (on Sunday!) Things happen :)

There is sooooo much bamboo goodness out there.

I had 10 minutes to "waste"  enjoy the other day while sitting in my car waiting on Mollie 

and these are some of the great bamboo items I found quickly scrolling through Instagram!

I've never ever seen a bamboo high chair!
 I'm sure it breaks every consumer safety code out there but it's super cute!

Y'all know I love a good thrifting day and this is a good haul! 

I have a couple of vintage bamboo bangles that belonged to my mom 

and I wear them all. the. time. 

But maybe I need a stack!!

Maybe I need an @myauntdebbie to add to my collection :)

I bought bamboo handled flatware for us to use when I was a newlywed. 

(Many, many years ago!)

We loved it and we are still using bamboo flatware today! 

Just not the same set!!

You had me at pagoda.

I'm a sucker for any pagoda shaped bamboo!!

And last, but not least, I cannot leave a bamboo chair behind. 

It's an affliction/addiction - something.

I'm really obsessed with the Brighton Pavilion chairs.

Look at these!! I actually would be leaving them behind at this price. 
And if I bought them at that price you would not be sitting in them!! For real!
But they are spectacular!!

I have a couple or so of chairs like this one.
Five. But I'm trying not to share how bad the "chair thing" really is!
 If you are looking for some this account often has amazing chairs for great prices!  
I love to pop in here when I'm in Charleston.

Things I love obviously includes bamboo! Vintage, natural, tortoise finish, painted, faux bamboo Palm Beach style. I like it all.

ORC - Lucky No. 7 Week 3

Week 3 arrives so quickly!

I am traveling to Charleston, SC this week so I am the lucky one!!

Not a lot has happened since last week's post except that I painted all of the trim, fireplace surround and the walls shiny, fresh white!

The last big painting push will happen next week when I return from Charleston!

I'm doing this in real time with a week's absence in the schedule so it's a bit boring at this end. Hopefully once the painting is over and the fun part (furniture and accessories) starts it will be more interesting!

So I leave you with some gorgeous porches to drool over and be inspired by!

Bonus points for the blue ceiling and the cute pooch!

This image takes me back to the porches of my Southern childhood. I don't know where it is and cannot find a source but it could literally be one of any porch in the Lowcountry.

This is what I see in my mind's eye when I think of  big, southern porches!

The question arises: Would it be confortable?

I do not care.

Blue and White Garden Thoughts...

I've always been a fan of blue in the garden.

After white flowers, blue hydrangeas and morning glories are my favorite.

(A bloom from this year's garden.)

We had a bumper crop of hydrangeas this year 
even though our weather was crazy last Winter

 and it has rained so much this Summer.

(I don't mind when they are a bit purple-y either!)

I also like blue and white in the garden in other forms.

Here are a few goodies from my IG feed.

I love a blue and white garden stool anywhere.

 This one is in good company- look at those woven chairs and fabulous topiaries. 

And this is perfection:

Bamboo Friday and It Smells So Good

I have been wanting to put a diffuser in my family room for quite some time. 

But I didn’t want it to look like a diffuser. 

I wanted it to “blend.” (My Cousin Vinny, Anyone?)

Mollie has been using Young Living Oils for ages 
(Christmas gift from me three or four years ago 
and I'm still messing around looking for a diffuser! Seriously!)

And then I found this one on Amazon a few days ago. 

How perfect that it's simple and BAMBOO!!

I put it on a little blue and white saucer on a side table in our Family Room 

and just plugged it in!

(We use those little saucers as coasters all over our home!)

It's obviously not a vintage item and still stands out a bit but it's working for me. 
Some are quite modern and large so this is better than most. 
It's wonderful to be able to add some oils to this diffuser 
and have our whole downstairs smell wonderful. 
Plus there is the added benefit that we can choose oils that help us relax or feel more energetic or even combat germs (no worries this Winter!)

If you follow me on Instagram you know that right now our family room
 is full of sweet scented roses!
But once they fade I'll be diffusing oils non-stop!

Bamboo Friday - Beach Edition

I went to the beach last week. 

It was fabulous. 

I had a folding canvas beach chair I bought at Goodwill.

No complaints. 

But, then I saw this .

I now have #beachgoals.

It's been a while since I posted on "Bamboo Friday" 

but when this daybed popped up in my feed...

Well, I'm in love.

I want it now!!

I would have to rearrange my entire house but who cares?!

It's too much fun!

It is $549.00 (plus oversized shipping)(plus plus you still have to get a mattress)

It is much less expensive than other bamboo/rattan daybeds I have seen lately.

And can't you just imagine lounging around on it with a good book 

and a drink in your hand?? 

Perfect nap spot for sure! 

Imagine it piled with gorgeous pillows and a soft throw...
