Design Crush - A Lot More Style

I have recently discovered and started stalking  following
 @alotmorestyle on Instagram.
I'm in love with her design work. She is definitely an "instagram favorite."
Her name is Celine Lotmore Jones.
Celine is Bahamian and does beautiful interior design
 with a wonderful tropical aesthetic.

She recently posted these pictures on her IG Stories.
They are from an island project and I love every single item and detail.
Take a look and you will want to book a tropical vacay or move to an island!

What a great, practical entryway.
Look at the inserts on the closet doors.
This display makes me want to grab one of those bags,
fill it with a snack and a towel and head to the nearest beach.
Celine also has a straw accessories business
that sells some of the most beautiful embroidered straw bags and hats.

This kitchen is fabulous. The gorgeous tropical mural. Straw shades on the light fixture. The cute white pagoda shelves. Rattan bar stools and I love a glossy ceiling that reflects the light.
Oh, and that cute little monkey.

Next up, gorgeous, serene bedrooms.
Delightful spots to escape the tropical heat and rest.
Seashell prints and a seafoam green chair that looks like a scallop shell.
A subtle and elegant nod to the island locale.
And those pagoda shelves are stunning.

I love bedrooms with twin beds.
The canopies and the light fixture are so elegant.

And then the outdoor spaces which are my personal favorite to look at, decorate myself,
 and to enjoy!
Lots of wicker and a beautiful turquoise block print fabric.
Two other key ingredients for island porch life - palms and ceiling fans.

This porch has a warm coral upholstery, a pair of comfy wicker chaise
and my all time favorite for relaxing - the swinging bed.

Be sure to follow @alotemorestyle on IG for beautiful island style inspiration
(and she has adorable kiddos too!)

Bamboo Friday.

I'm so, so excited for warm weather and porch time.
I've posted a couple of shots of this mantle set up on my screened in porch
on Intstagram recently and had a lot of interest about this bamboo mirror.

Y'all - it is plastic!!
And therefore perfect for outside use!!
Do not count plastic bamboo out!!

It's vintage - you can really tell it's age from the back
but it looks great , and surprisingly "real", not plastic, from the front.

I have found several plastic "bamboo" mirrors in the last couple of years. They can be spray painted if the color is a bit off. The one over the porch fireplace just needed dusting!  All of mine have been less than $10.00 at GW and thrift stores. I did a little research and there are several on Etsy and ebay right now.
They were used in bathrooms in the 60's and 70's
and there are a lot of different shapes and sizes out there.

Monday Blues

1.28.2019

I'm not an antler kind of girl but I'm all about everything else - brick painted white, giant clamshell, gorgeous flowers and, of course, the blue and white porcelain on every surface!!
Plus the top, gold brackets holding the blue and white pieces look like an easy DIY using craft store plaques, shelf bracket and gold spraypaint!
This will cure the Monday Blues!

Bamboo Friday - Beach Edition

I went to the beach last week.
It was fabulous.
I had a folding canvas beach chair I bought at Goodwill.
No complaints.
But, then I saw this .

I now have #beachgoals.

I saw this on IG @elizagranstudio

Bamboo Friday July 20,2018

I’ve seen this image “floating” around (see what I did there?) IG* and Pinterest.
And I’ve come to some conclusions....

I need this amazing floating bamboo tray.
And I need a fabulous turquoise-y pool.
With lush tropical foliage.
And,
if someone wanted to put that delicious spread on it and float it on over to me,
well, I’d be fine with that too!

Bamboo Friday #11. I Can't Choose...

The November issue of Coastal Living Magazine
has two of the most amazing bamboo items ever.

I cannot pick a favorite so you decide.
Which do you think is the most fabulous??

First, this hanging chair/bed/?
However you identify it, it is the perfect spot to read/relax/ sleep/ daydream.

I'd like to spend every Bamboo Friday in it :)

And the other image that grabbed me is this "rounded bamboo sofa" in this dreamy Caribbean home designed by the amazing Amanda Lindroth.

I mean, really.
That is my dream bamboo find right there!!
I could definitely be happy sitting on that couch on Lyford Cay for the rest of my life.

Have a good Bamboo Friday
and if your weekend involves some thrifting then I hope you find something bamboo!!

Bamboo Friday #9

Wow - Bamboo Friday #9.
This week it is all about the amazing bamboo pieces that Lindsey Coral Harper used in the Southern Living Idea House on Bald Head Island, NC.

I understand that some of the pieces are from her private collection.

Maybe you will find some great vintage bamboo at a thrift store or yard sale!

Bamboo Friday #8

One of my all time favorite rooms - by Gen and Ben Sohr of Paper and Pencil Blog - and it has an amazing octagon bamboo coffee table.
We talked about my big bamboo coffee table last week but this one is in a league of its own with that shape and fretwork.

What's not to love?

Gen loves to play with patterns and layers, drawing from her collection of vintage fabrics to add more graphic power. “For a client, we’ll put a whole board together, but decorating for myself, I’m very organic, always tweaking, always moving around pillows.”

I saw one years ago in a thrift store and left it behind.
What WAS I thinking??
Thinking about that has me feeling a little blue.

Happy Friday!
If thrifting is on your weekend agenda I hope you find some fabulous vintage bamboo!!

Bamboo Friday #3

This one is a zinger!
I had another BF topic in mind and then I found this article in
House and Garden UK
and it was all over.

The title: "Bamboo House."
They had me at bamboo and they were not kidding.
Look at this place.
And it's on a remote island.
Perfect and perfect!

I did a little digging and found this fabulous mode of transport in case you don't want to ruin your relaxed, zen state from hanging out at the bamboo house by pedaling-

And in case you think this is over the top and a bit much...
 remember bamboo is sustainable!

Bamboo Is Best.

Bamboo Is Best is the title of one of my most popular Pinterest boards
and my design mantra as well.
I think Dorothy Draper said every room needed a touch of black.
I agree, but I think every room needs a touch of bamboo.
Or in my case - more than a touch.
I like my bamboo in big doses.

And it turns out I'm not wrong about this.

Vintage bamboo, reproduction bamboo, faux bamboo and new styles of bamboo furniture are everywhere these days.

It's really timeless.
Our first flatware many, many years ago was bamboo.
And here we are still using bamboo flatware.

Bamboo is so versatile.
You can use a room full of bamboo furniture or mix in a touch of bamboo into traditional, contemporary and rooms of every style.
Inside and outside.

or relaxed and casual.

Bamboo works in every room and with every style.
It's the "neutral" of furniture.

So, here's a little bamboo eye candy as we breeze in to the first weekend of August.
It's still Summer in my book
(I do not care what the Metro Atlanta School Calendar says)
and there's plenty of time to enjoy some tropical bamboo accents.
For this "Bamboo Friday" I'm focusing on natural bamboo pieces:

This bed from Anthropologie is perfection.
I wouldn't be mad if this showed up at my house.

Or this entire bedroom set up from One Kings Lane:
I love everything about this bedroom

If not a whole bamboo bed then a vintage rattan and bamboo bedside table
adds warmth and another texture to this pretty bedroom:

(And I'd like to point out that her toddler created the b/w modern artwork!)

Bar carts are another place I like natural bamboo tones:

I have a couple of bamboo bar carts and I use them for anything and everything!

This gorgeous dresser came to live in my family room at the beginning of the year.
It was too gorgeous to paint.

(I'm not a fan of big, black TVs from a design standpoint
but they are a reality and the bamboo dresser takes it up a notch in my opinion.)

Bamboo dressers are being used in every room of the house these days.
Gorgeous, repurposed storage.

We think vintage bamboo is so fabulous that we started a business finding and selling what we can bear to part with :)
See what that's about here and here!

I love bamboo so much that maybe "Bamboo Fridays" should be a thing!

iphone 1/17/2017

Does this happen at your house?
When I "take down Christmas" I don't just put things back in place.
Even though I was perfectly happy before Christmas.

I plopped that pillow on the stool because I love buffalo check.
I love that pillow in the Library and I'm not sure I want it to leave but..
I found this cute pillow on clearance after Christmas.
So it's "auditioning." :)

I also found a glass top faux bamboo coffee table right before Christmas.
It is only 2 inches smaller than the one that has been in the Library.
But I'm giving it a try to see if the slight difference "opens up" the room.
At least that's what I'm telling myself.

When the Christmas greenery goes, I find myself needing greenery of another sort.

Forcing some paperwhites for a little pre-Spring pick me up!

White tulips were on sale at Kroger.
What's a girl gonna do?
Plus I had to go to the grocery on a Saturday.
 I deserved them.

And the ivy plants are always so pretty in January.

I love this image from IG.
We should go wherever this is.

I love her feed.
I love these chairs
and I have a loooong love affair with black and white checked floors.
*notice the plants in the window :)

I'm always drawn to warm, beachy images in the Winter.
I don't know if it's torture or it helps. But this painting is gorgeous!

Aaaand the Chinoiserie Christmas ornaments were so much fun
I had to think of another project along the same line.
So, Ta-Da!!

Chinoiserie Valentine Mini canvases to warm your heart.
And they are going on sale on Instagram on Friday 1/20.
I'll be posting these and more that are "in progress' on my work table.
All different sizes (for reference: the one above is 6x6 inches) and color combos!!

That's about all the randomness on my phone right now.
