Bamboo Baker's Rack plus Herbs.

I haven't had a Bamboo Friday post in ages.
This was supposed to be ready on Wednesday but here you go - let's call it Bamboo Friday.
(It's been a Summer for the books and this is about all I've accomplished but I am really enjoying it!)

(You can see The Bucket in the background!)

I found this bamboo baker's rack a couple of years ago for less than $20.00 at Goodwill. It had 2 glass shelves and I managed to break one along the way :(  It happens.
It was temporarily housed in my work area and so I just had wooden shelves cut for it.

I recently decided to relocate it to my screened in porch as a home for potted herbs.
Since I'm going to put plants on the shelves and I would be worried about the weight (especially when they were wet)
I decided to keep the wooden shelves and not have glass ones cut.
I also wanted to give it a coat of paint. This particular piece had some pretty rough, porous looking areas and I think it needs the protection the paint will offer.

I put this thing on saw horses and turned it every which way to paint it.
It has so many nooks and crannies and curves.
You just have to give it a lot of light coats from multiple directions.

I use this dark green spray paint for my porch and yard furniture.
It is as close to the dark, Charleston green as I can get in a can.
And, 1. I don't know why there are drips on that can. I never have any trouble with this paint. It's the best coverage I've found. #notsponsored but boy, do I wish someone would send me free spray paint :)  2. That table is obviously on the 'need to paint' list! Ha!

Then I slid it in it's new spot and started filling it up with plants,
blue and white (of course) and some other thrifted finds.

I think that this spot will get enough morning sun and afternoon light to keep some potted herbs happy and give us great access for cooking.
I think it will be a great spot to bring the herbs in to from their Summer spots out in the yard and winter them over. I'll keep you posted on Instagram.

And guess what popped up on my FB marketplace this week?
The exact same baker's rack with all the glass shelves.
Not a bad price at all!!

I'm headed to the garden center for a few more herbs and some potting soil!
Do you have favorite herbs that you grow?

Bamboo Friday.

I'm so, so excited for warm weather and porch time.
I've posted a couple of shots of this mantle set up on my screened in porch
on Intstagram recently and had a lot of interest about this bamboo mirror.

Y'all - it is plastic!!
And therefore perfect for outside use!!
Do not count plastic bamboo out!!

It's vintage - you can really tell it's age from the back
but it looks great , and surprisingly "real", not plastic, from the front.

I have found several plastic "bamboo" mirrors in the last couple of years. They can be spray painted if the color is a bit off. The one over the porch fireplace just needed dusting!  All of mine have been less than $10.00 at GW and thrift stores. I did a little research and there are several on Etsy and ebay right now.
They were used in bathrooms in the 60's and 70's
and there are a lot of different shapes and sizes out there.

Bamboo Friday. And More!

I posted this photo in my Instagram stories this week
to promote our new hashtag #thriftwithus
but I though it deserved a little more attention.

 So. Much. Good Stuff.

I found a set of these great ship soup bowls out thrifting this week.
We love the coastal/nautical vibe so I thought these would be fun to use.
My husband loves them.

I can picture them filled with delicious shrimp salad
and dining on the porch on a warm Summer evening!

The bamboo planters, brass sailboat, woven chargers, and tortoiseshell glasses
were all found at thrift stores!!

Keep your eyes open - you never know what you are going to find!
If you don't eventually stumble across everything while out thrifting
then here are some possibilities.
(nothing wrong with instant gratification!!)

Bamboo Friday (on Sunday!) Things happen :)

There is sooooo much bamboo goodness out there.
I had 10 minutes to "waste"  enjoy the other day while sitting in my car waiting on Mollie
and these are some of the great bamboo items I found quickly scrolling through Instagram!

I've left the sources on the screenshot in case you want to see more!

A vintage couch with classy new upholstery will always be more fabulous than anything new!
(IMHO)

I've never ever seen a bamboo high chair!
I'm sure it breaks every consumer safety code out there but it's super cute!

Y'all know I love a good thrifting day and this is a good haul!

I have a couple of vintage bamboo bangles that belonged to my mom
and I wear them all. the. time.
But maybe I need a stack!!
Maybe I need an @myauntdebbie to add to my collection :)

I bought bamboo handled flatware for us to use when I was a newlywed.
(Many, many years ago!)
We loved it and we are still using bamboo flatware today!
Just not the same set!!

You had me at pagoda.
I'm a sucker for any pagoda shaped bamboo!!

And last, but not least, I cannot leave a bamboo chair behind.
It's an affliction/addiction - something.
I'm really obsessed with the Brighton Pavilion chairs.

Look at these!! I actually would be leaving them behind at this price.
And if I bought them at that price you would not be sitting in them!! For real!
But they are spectacular!!

I have a couple or so of chairs like this one.
Five. But I'm trying not to share how bad the "chair thing" really is!
If you are looking for some this account often has amazing chairs for great prices!
I love to pop in here when I'm in Charleston.
It's a fabulous shop with great inspiration.
PS. I'm all about the elephant garden stool, too!

And this is a new to me account but I'm loving looking through her feed
and she has used my favorite chairs in her home with the best cushion fabrics!

So Bamboo Friday is a little late but all this eye candy was worth the wait!!

Bamboo Friday

Things I love obviously includes bamboo! Vintage, natural, tortoise finish, painted, faux bamboo Palm Beach style. I like it all.
So Things I Love Month - Entry 4 is also bamboo Friday!

I've posted bamboo daybeds before but this one is what dreams are made of.

It was listed on 1st Dibs for $4,850.00.
If you get it may I come see it??

Bamboo Friday

It is sooooo cold everywhere.
#polarvortex

I think a dose of tropical green is what we all need.

I've purchased this indoor/outdoor palm fabric to use in my home
in case you want to do a quick DIY pillow or lampshade
while you are waiting for the "Spring Thaw" :)

It's currently a fantastic price here.
In fact, I might order some so I can get started on freshening up my porch.

Bamboo Friday

1.25.2019

This is the porch of an airbnb in Australia.
It's a cute little cottage and everything in it is for sale!!
Love the bamboo table or hammock?
Take it with you when you check out!!
How fun is that?

I would LOVE to run an airbnb like that!!

When I was growing up outside of DC there was a huge historic barn
 that had been turned into
a rustic chic (before that was a thing) Dinner Theatre
and all of the dishes, glasses, silverware were for sale.
All vintage-y and a posh mish mash. It was so much fun.
Like the soup spoon?
They would wash it up for you to take home and add it to the bill!
So fabulous!!
Whatever happened to dinner theatres anyway?

Bamboo Friday on the Porch

I could definitely see myself "hanging around" on this porch.
Every bit of this bamboo is fabulous
but you have to admit that a hanging chair always wins
for best seat in the place!

There's been a lot of articles about trends for 2019 (which really isn't on my radar) and I haven't read anything about this but I'm seeing yellow in a lot of recent images!
This is okay with me because I jumped on the yellow bandwagon with my porch revamp during the last One Room Challenge. Check it out here!

Bamboo Friday

Oh my gosh!!
No words needed!

I, obviously, think this rattan sofa is a.maz.ing.
The question arises: Would it be confortable?
I do not care.
I would just stand and look at it all day long!

PS. If you buy it please invite me over to gawk at it in person.
Thank you.

Bamboo Friday with Olives

Many years ago I bought bamboo handled flatware for us to use as newlyweds.
Those wore out long ago but I  replaced them
and to this day we still use bamboo handled flatware - especially when we entertain on our porch.
I purchased my last set here.
(Wait for a sale! They can be purchased for great deals!)

Now on to the yummy part.
Blistered Olives!!

Last week was my husbands' birthday and he wanted to stay home,
watch football and have a charcuterie board.

One of our favorite new additions to our "noshing"  evenings
are these "blistered" olives.
I found them on Pinterest (this is the original link.)

They are soooo delicious and easy. They are a great addition to any snacking event - Happy Hour, apps before dinner, charcuterie boards. Anytime.

This is all you have to do. It takes 5 minutes.

You will need:
1 large jar of green olives stuffed with pimientos, drained.
1 Tbsp of olive oil
1 Tsp of red pepper flakes ( I use a tad more :) We are zesty like that!)
1 Tbsp of fresh garlic, finely chopped. I cheat and use the fresh chopped garlic in the jars from the refrigerator section of the grocery. Up to you.
Zest of one fresh lemon (don't omit - adds a freshness)

Just put the oil and spices in a saute pan and heat slightly over medium heat.
Add the drained olives, toss to coat and cook for about 5 minutes - just until they start to brown. We like them a little bit more "blistered" so I do an extra minute or two, tossing occasionally.

Serve with your other snacks and enjoy.
They are YUMMY!

Bamboo Friday - Purple Haze

Porphyrophobia is fear of the color purple.

No fear here!
What a gorgeous porch and fabulous bamboo pieces.
