I felt a little bit like there should have been
a ribbon cutting ceremony at the guest room door :)
Especially since the rest of my house looks like a
bomb went off!!
Welcome to my "challenge room!!"
But first, thank you to Linda of Calling It Home Blog
for hosting all of us!!
It's been a lot of fun and very motivating!!
This is what you see when you walk in the door.
The light is great in here now that everything is white.
And on the opposite wall,
the bed that started it all.
The little coral painted bamboo table can be moved to the side wall if guests want it to be more like a bedside table than centered in front of the bed.
And standing against the closet doors, with the daybed to the left and the dresser below the window to the right, you see this wall.
The armoire wall.
It needs a little somethin' somethin'.
I will eventually hang some art on each side but I'm not sure what yet.
I will wait until the right thing comes along.
I'm hoping to find some during my travels in Central America this Summer.
I also plan to buy a handwoven throw for the bed this Summer.
College Girl bought one in Honduras last Summer and it's fantastic.
Thank you for following along.
I wanted a British Colonial/ West Indies feel that is traditional in the coastal South.
I wanted my guest room to feel a little more Raffles Singapore (would love to see it)
than Tiki Bar (not that I don't adore a good Tiki Bar!!)
Hopefully I landed somewhere in the middle!
I'll be back tomorrow next week with sources, paint colors, etc. if anyone is interested in that info and I'll share what happened, what didn't get done or make the cut
and maybe give away the secret of why my lampshades are shiny and why they aren't straight in such important photos!! :)
The ORC is quite a process.
And I'm off to see what everyone else has done with their spaces!!
Update: be sure to check out the follow up posts with details and sources!!

DeleteYour guest room looks beautiful & relaxing. I love the fabrics you chose, especially the leaf print. I think I need to find a way to work that into my house! I also love the coral art in the window!
ReplyDeleteSuch a lovely guest room! The pillows you chose are so pretty, and I love the coral print--what a pretty space!
ReplyDeleteThank you. I loved choosing the pillow fabrics and the coral in the blue and white vase is actually a painting. I painted it the night before the reveal - talk about burning the midnight oil. So thank you for mentioning it - I was so down to the wire I almost didn't use it!!
DeleteSuch a lovely guest room! The pillows you chose are so pretty, and I love the coral print--what a pretty space!
ReplyDeleteOh I love the colors you picked and that print is so pretty! Definitely a Raffles room and not Tiki Bar!! And I'm always a fool for a blue and white elephant - he completes the room! :)
ReplyDeleteThank you. I was so excited when I found that elephant!! And thank you for mentioning the 'print'. It's actually a painting - that I painted the night before!! LOL How's that for burning the midnight oil??
DeleteBeautiful!! I love the pops of coral! And in love with that print!! where is it from?
ReplyDeleteAlbertina, ( I loooove your name!!) Thank you. I love the coral too. And the "print" is actually a painting I did. I painted it at the last minute for the room I've never painted anything exactly like that and now I want to go crazy painting chinoiserie and coral :)
DeleteWow! This room does deserve the ribbon-cutting ceremony after all! love it all! The pattern mix and the smart styling and placement of furniture in this space!
ReplyDeleteThank you so much Vel. It was a lot of fun and I enjoyed the process of the ORC. I may do it again!!

ReplyDeleteThank you Cathy. I'm in the mood to paint some more in the same style - but smaller!! And not the night before I need it :)
DeleteI love all the pillows and the print with the coral. It definitely feels British West Indies. Fantastic job. The bomb was funny. I know that feeling, well.
ReplyDeleteThank you Linda! I enjoyed your ORC and may do it next time :) My house still looks like a bomb went off!! And the "print" is actually a painting I did. I painted it at the last minute for the room I've never painted anything exactly like that and now I want to go crazy painting chinoiserie and coral :)

ReplyDeleteThank you Lisa - Sorry for the delay !! I've been out of the country and there wasn't internet!! That fabric led me on a wild chase but I finally tracked it down- I just love it, too. And thank you for your comment on the artwork. I actually painted it the night before the reveal - how's that for cutting it close??
