The Gingerbread Man !

One more post on recyclables on a post - haha!! After seeing the Pumpkins on a post ( or Pumpkin Totems ) a friend asked if I could make something gingerbread themed so she could surprise her mom. Her parents host a large, swanky Christmas party each year at their farm (weekend home!) and every year her mother themes it and decorates the entire place in that theme. You guessed it , gingerbread men this year. This one gave me a little trouble to start with because I knew I didn't want three brown cookie faces stacked up.

But it evolved nicely! The middle is a cookie sheet painted with chalkboard paint so she can write any message she wants on it. I painted a Gingerbread Man cookie on the cookie sheet to "cute it up!" ( that's one of my constant companions to the left!)

The bottom pan in the stack - a big pizza pan- got the peppermint candy treatment because she is using red and white ribbon and some candy accents. Perfect!
And of course, lots of glitter spray paint and crystal glitter to give this guy some bling!

I finished him off with sparkly tulle and ribbon. I even had some ribbon with gingerbread men on it. And again, he was out the door so quickly yesterday to head on up to the farm that these are the best pics I had time for!!
Run, Run, Gingerbread Man.
Off to the party as fast as you can!!

Be sure to check out the latest on this guy!!!

    1. I nailed everything to a 1 x 2 pine board. The board is cemented upright in a bucket from the Dollar Tree. Very easy!!

  2. What type of pole did you attach it to and how did you attach it?

    1. I used a 1 x 2 pine board and I nailed everything together. It is very sturdy because this client wanted to use him on a covered porch outside. Good Luck! Marcie

  3. The paint used is just paint used for metal? And of course the chalk board paint.

    1. Sherbees, I use such a conglomeration of found objects for my projects and whatever paint is hanging around - house, craft, acrylic, etc. that I just prime everything first with Kilz Primer. Sometimes I use the spray paint version and sometimes I brush it on. The cure time it states in the instructions is the key to success and that's the hardest part - to wait :) Marcie

  4. How did you get the peppermint look? I am going nuts trying to achieve that look!!! I am spray painting white, then tried to cut out paper slices and put on pan then spray over with red, but the red keeps leaking thru to white and I have the slices tape to the pan and will peel my white paint off. HELP PLEASE!!! I love this little guy and have my head and chalkboard done, but this peppermint is giving me problems!!!

  5. I really like. Thanks for sharing. Was wondering about a Santa Clause, what would you use for the bottom. My kids would love to have this to count down the days to Christmas.

  6. Lynne, Thannx! You could still do the round pizza pan at th bottom for a santa. Just paint it red and then paint white 'fur" down the center vertically and a balck belt and gold buckle across the pan horizontally. I can totally see it working! Cute idea. Marcie

  8. Megan, I was having same problem, FINALLY conquered it!! I sprayed painted the pan white let it dry for a day, then took a red paint marker and drew my red strips on it and just like colored in. let that dry about half a day then spray with silver glitter, looks awesome!!! Good Luck!

  9. The peppermint pan is giving a lot of people trouble :( I base coat the entire pan in Krylon 2 in 1 white spray paint. Then I use painters tape to tape off the triangles that are going to be red. Then I brush a light coat of white paint along the edge of the tape so that there isn't any red bleeding under the edge - same way you do stripes on walls- and then I brush or spray the red paint. Peel tape away carefully :) Then everything gets glitter at the end!! I'm working on several Gingerbread Man orders right now so I'll try to photograph the steps and do a quick post in the near future!!

  11. Just wondering how you get the glitter to stick. I have bottles of it but know it needs something to stick to..what was your secret? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks.

    1. Janice, I use a can of crystal looking Krylon Glitter blast and then I sprinkle on the crystal glitter. I also brush Mod Podge on and sprinkle with glitter if I need a concentration in a certain place. MP holds the glitter very well - I haven't found anything else that works better. Around here the best price on the Krylon Glitter Blast is Wal mart. Be sure to follow the directions as it will clog and quit spraying. I love the stuff but it is not inexpensive so it is irritating when it clogs and can't be used - my only complaint about it. Marcie

    1. Thank you... I use found and scrounged items for these so I have used burner covers, pie tins, small metal pans from Dollar Tree. Really anything you can find in the right size for the head :) Yard slaes and the dollar store are great sources. Good luck and be sure to prime the metal first :)
